Soroptimist International of Sequim provides scholarships, awards and recognition to youth, women and businesses within the community.
LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD: EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR WOMEN $2000.
Award advertised in October. Applications due November 15. The Live Your Dream Award was established in 1972 to aid the mature woman to enter or re-enter the job market, or to further her skills and training to upgrade her employment status. This is a $2000 award and is available to women who are the head of the household and have financial responsibility for their dependents. For more information click here.
YOUTH COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD : 1st Place: $250 to the volunteer, $250 to the organization. 2nd Place: $250 to the volunteer
Award applications available October 1. Applications due November 30. The Youth Community Service Award was established to recognize outstanding contributions by females 14-18 years old for the improvement of the quality of life of their fellow citizens. High school students in the Sequim School District are eligible to apply for this merit award which is not based on academic achievement. Students must demonstrate a commitment to improving the life of others, and have involvement in family, school activities, and service in the community. See sidebar or click here for application.
VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL AWARD $2000.
Award advertised in June. Applications due July 30. The Award is given in September. The Vocational Technical Award is given to a student enrolled in a non-degree program leading to a certificate or license. Such programs are normally found in vocational technical schools or 2-year community colleges. Applicant MUST be enrolled in a vocational or technical school at the time of award. The $2000 award is used for tuition or needed supplies.
CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS $2000.
Scholarships advertised in June. Applications must be postmarked by August 15. Applicants must be female graduates of Sequim High School OR have a legal address within the Sequim School District. They also need to have completed one year of post-secondary education and will be continuing their education in the fall of this year. There are four Continuing Education Scholarships awarded each year. These awards are for $2000 and applicants are solicited through the newspapers and Peninsula College in June.
GIRL OF THE MONTH (GOM)
Soroptimist Girls of the Month, as selected by Sequim High School, are honored October through May each school year. Girls of the Month are selected not just on achievements in academics, but also in recognition for endeavors in service, citizenship, or athletics. This is not a monetary award. The girl and her parents/guardian are invited to our meeting where she is recognized by the club and awarded a certificate.
HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS $2000.
These scholarships are chosen in May. Soroptimist International of Sequim awards four scholarships to graduating Sequim High School senior girls. Recipients are chosen based on criteria consisting of academic achievement, community involvement, GPA, goals, and need as set forth in their scholarship notebooks. These awards are for $2000 and are paid directly to the student’s choice of institution of learning.
