Medical Loan Closet – Over 50 Years of Service
The Soroptimist Medical Loan Closet loans various types of durable medical equipment to the Sequim community. We loan this equipment without charge, for up to 90 days, and without any condition except that you live within the boundaries of the Sequim School District. Items available, free of charge, include walkers, wheelchairs, transport chairs, bath transfer seats, shower seats, bed rails, knee scooters, canes, crutches, upright walkers and more.
The Closet is open by appointment only. For information about donating items, or to arrange for a loan or return of equipment, call the automated telephone number at 360-504-0231. A volunteer will return your call and set up an appointment.
Because so many of our clients are in fragile health, we request that when you visit the MLC, you maintain social distance and wait in your car until it is your turn to borrow, return or donate equipment.
A Little More about the MLC:
The Medical Loan Closet began in 1972. Marcia Beggs lovingly handled the Medical Loan Closet for years. Her dedication and service are a symbol of what SI of Sequim is all about. From its small beginnings, we loaned over 1,200 items in 2023.
Members of the community can be a part of it too. For example, people are welcome to donate clean, gently used, medical equipment that they purchased but no longer need to the Medical Loan Closet—giving someone else the benefit of using that equipment. If you have items to donate, please call 360-504-0231 and leave a message.
The monies we receive—through direct donations and through our various fundraisers – are used for the purchase of high demand equipment and to pay for the rental of the facility that houses our equipment. The following chart shows how generous the people in our community have been in support of the Loan Closet. In addition to $7,035 in community donations this last fiscal year (July through June 2024) we received a $2,500 grant from the Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild. The grant was used to purchase 14 new wheelchairs and allowed us to donate many of our well-used wheelchairs to Sequim Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) groups.
The following chart shows the number of items (durable medical equipment) lent over the last five years.
