ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

What we do as Soroptimists changes the world - even when it is one person at a time.

To the Soroptimist Club of Sequim,

Your gift to our ministry here at Children of the Nations is not only a welcome financial support, but a confirmation that we have partners who care as much as we do about serving the needs of the destitute and orphaned children of the world. We’d like to tell you how contributions like yours are used to serve these kids.

In the Dominican Republic, about 250 children attend our school/feeding centers in the villages of Algodon and Los Robles. We also have a new orphanage that is serving young orphan girls. Soon ten young girls will find new love and hope in this home. Our desire is to move throughout the region, one village at a time, serving more and more children.

In Sierra Leon, West Africa, we are working to provide services to children terrorized during the protracted civil war in that country. There are an estimated 10,000 orphaned and homeless children on the streets. We are currently caring for orphans in two different homes and have plans to slowly add children to our programs as the current children and staffs adjust to their new environments.

Thank you again for your generous gift. We consider you not just a partner, but a part of our family, reaching out to these poorest of children.

For Children,
Chris and Debbie Clark

Dear Soroptimist Scholarship Committee,

Hi! Hope all is well on the Peninsula. As my first semester of college comes to an end, I wanted to write and let you know how fabulous it has been and how thankful I am that you selected me as a recipient of your scholarship.

Classes at Whitman began the last week of August and the first couple of weeks were spent settling into Anderson Hall, getting to know my roommate Laura (and the other twenty-four girls in our section), attending lectures, concerts, and activities, and of course, beginning my first semester courses. Since then, college life has continued to be a whirlwind of fun activities and challenging work.

I have never had to work so hard in my courses, but I am finding lots of ways to have fun. I really enjoy my “job” tutoring second and third graders at a local elementary school. Nervous but curious, I also joined the intramural girls flag football team and we were the first freshman women’s team to EVER make it to the semi-finals! I have also participated in several community service projects in the Walla Walla community and have enjoyed exploring my new home. I have become great friends with some of the most brilliant and fascinating people I have ever met and sometimes it is still hard to believe I am really here. Thank you again for your assistance which has enabled me to be at Whitman!

Sincerely,
Lindsey Gammill

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to express my sincere thanks for the scholarship awarded for furthering my education this 2001-2002 school year. I am enjoying my schooling here at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon and am looking forward to pursuing my degrees here in the future. I am planning on majoring in both Spanish and Elementary Education. My plans for the very near future will hopefully include a semester studying abroad in Spain to fully complete my Spanish major, while also continuing with my general requirements, and beginning my Education classes. I am very blessed to be at such a University and to have the privilege of learning more. I look forward to the day when I can in turn give back to society by teaching children, and instill in them a good education and hope for their future.

Thank you once again for your generosity and aiding me in my education for this year. It is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Maia Nesse
