Dear Members, Action is eloquence - Shakespeare. I hope your summer was joyous and action packed. As we approach the fall, are you ready for our 2002-2003 Soroptimist year? I am looking forward to seeing you and hearing about your experiences during our happy dollar exchanges. I attended my first Federation Soroptimist meeting in San Diego, July 17-21. There were representatives from 580 clubs (out of 1497) in attendance. Business was accomplished and the debate lively. I will share all about it at our first business meeting in September. I also had a wonderful time making new friends and literally meeting members from all over our world. These experiences were the highlight of my trip and included a Japanese Tea Ceremony, the San Diego Zoo, La Jolla shopping (and beachwalk), and Sea World. I attended many workshops and enjoyed hearing Erin Brockovich speak. All in all, I have a greater understanding of how Soroptimist is governed, why changes were proposed and a sense of awe of how civilly decisions were rendered. We belong to a first class organization, ladies. Thank you to all members who sent cards during our time of sorrow. It was shortly after my return that we lost my husband Allans mother. She lived in Sequim and our first experience with death of a parent. Papa remains and is working through the grief process. Keep him in your prayers. Thank you to Ruth Marcus, Jeannie Martin, Sally Sue Barry and Kathy Purcell for the work they have done on the new roster for this year. It is a challenge to get it right and I applaud their efforts. We have come to depend on this little book during our year and you will see new additions included this year. I am excited to begin our year, knowing each one of you has a plan of action. Otherwise, I might be panicking. Together as Soroptimists we can accomplish our goals and bring joy to the lives of others in our communities. I thank you for this association and the friendships we develop from it. In Soroptimist Friendship, Leah Tuttle |
