You are invited to attend
the District 1 Meeting
in Bellingham, WA
October 12 and 13, 2002

Cut off is September 11th.
Rooms must be reserved by that time.

The meeting hotel has rooms blocked with guaranteed room rates. Rooms have been booked at least four years in advance, guaranteeing that a certain number of hotel rooms will be used. This guaranteed room block becomes the basis for negotiations that include the price of rooms, rent paid for meeting space and any concessions the hotel gives to Soroptimist. If we fail to use the rooms, a penalty fee will be imposed by the hotel or Soroptimist will be forced to pay more for meeting space or concessions. When members choose not to stay, or to stay elsewhere, it can mean the difference between breaking even and running into a deficit for the organization’s budget.

Exciting Changes in the NWR

Exciting changes are happening right now in the Northwestern Region! At District Meeting you will be introduced to how the NWR is doing business “now” with regards to our NWR Website. We are asking each club to appoint (a club appointed position) an Internet Coordinator. What is an Internet Coordinator? Our current website is being developed as we shift into one that will provide a region database that will be dynamic and easily accessible to all region members. It will serve as a “one stop” resource for all NWR members and officers, providing cost savings for the Region. There will be enhancements that deliver an increase in member services and it will ease the administrative duties and tasks of individual club management! First and foremost, The I.C. (Internet Coordinator) will attend the workshop to be held at each District meeting. If for some reason the IC is unable to attend, a representative from each club is asked to attend and take back the information. We are asked to appoint an Internet Coordinator now. Qualities should include: computer and Internet savvy, detail oriented and understands the management structure of SIA and NWR.

We are also asked to select a member to represent our club on an Area Committee. In an effort to utilize leadership talent within our District, these club representatives will attend a workshop at the District meeting specifically designed to explain the goals of how these members and committees will function along with details of the impact their contributions will make to our District. Each club representative could be a club member, the club President or President-Elect. Requirements consist of the ability to use e-mail, knowledge of our organization and current involvement in the club. Time commitment is minimal and will consist primarily of collecting and sending of information and assisting in the planning of Area Meetings. Our District is so large we need to utilize our membership to ensure information is communicated to all of the members of NWR. What better means than to gather our leaders within to serve our District!
