Soroptimist of Sequim Has An Open Air About Them

Organizers of the Open Aire Market in Sequim presented SI Sequim with a wonderful opportunity – a FREE booth at the market on the Saturday of our choice. Several of the community service clubs are invited to share the activities of their organizations. June 21, 2003 was the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year was a perfect time for Soroptimists to participate at the Open Aire Market.

When Alex proposed that we investigate this terrific offer at one of our meetings, Colleen was the only volunteer. Marilyn Hoosier’s hand was up in no time. Colleen organized this fundraiser, getting members to sign up to work our booth and provide some awesome baked goods. Members Colleen Blazier, Sherry Schubert, Peg Rinker and Patsene Twiss were seen decked out in their SI Sequim Flower Power T-shirts. Soroptimist of Sequim offered delicious See’s Candy, gourmet homemade baked goods as well as lavender lotion. The rewards from this fundraiser included not only a few extra dollars (over $150) for the club, but also an opportunity to show our support for the community. Thank you Soroptimist Sisters for caring and sharing your time and talents.

                                                GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The Growth and Development and Hospitality Committees will be planning soon for the second Wine Tasting and Membership Invitational at Groveland Cottage. Keep October 8, 2003 open for the festivities. We expect to install as many as 10 new members by Christmas. It's never too early to be thinking about the fine women in your life who would benefit by becoming a Soroptimist, and the new energy they can provide our club!

Think about your co-workers, neighbors, fellow church attendees, your beautician, your letter carrier. What about a waitress/owner of your favorite restaurant?

The NW Region is offering an incentive for clubs recruiting a mere 3 new members by March 2004, and that means we will more than likely be eligible for a grand prize drawing of a complimentary Registration and Meal Packet to the 2004 SIA Convention in Calgary, Alberta, in August of next year.

(When the 4th member is signed up, our name goes in again, and so forth. (The more members recruited, the more chances to go to Calgary!)

So put your thinking caps on, and E-mail Alex at alxkly@aol.com with the name, address and phone number of potential Soroptimists for the invitation list to the wine tasting.
