Hi Jeanne,
Lavender Festival sounds wonderful! I have some lavender plants that
I bought after visiting Sequim as a way of remembering the beautiful
lavender fields you showed me.
Concerning my textiles, go to the website :
http://hem.passagen.se/apple4u/berit/
I’m really longing to come back to Sequim and now I’ve
got an idea. Is there any place in Sequim or nearby suitable for an
exhibition of my textile work? That would be a way of joining two
issues at one time. It would be best in the Summertime for me. Let
me know what you think, I can also take a no. I’m counting on
your knowledge of the area. If it’s not suitable, it’s
not.
Concerning the Soroptimist work, at the moment my club pays money
to a summer camp for children from Chernobyl in Russia. I’m
the President and I’m trying to change some old-fashion rules.
Next month we are going to have a club meeting where the issue of
“What is the club going to do further on” is going to
be discussed. I took away the planned program and put in this instead
because it’s importance.
So wish me luck! I’ll let you know how things turn out.
Take Care,
Berit

Dear
Kathy,
Thank you so much for your letter!
I was deeply touched partly by your concern over my Soroptimist task,
partly by you giving me the honor of participating in your newsletter.
In my club there are 22 members, 10 have age over 70. I think that’s
one of the reasons that it’s so hard changing the way of working.
There are 2 or 3 members that would love to start a new project but
the majority like it as it is, having a firm conviction that we are
“so lojal to the empowerment of women all over the world”....
the meeting in September is going to show how things will be in the
club.
Concerning my textile works - I’m happy that you like the bird
of Felix and the Good of the Sun. It’s a fairy tale from
both Chinese, Greek and Oriental mythology and in the Greek it’s
a heron that every 500 year is dying in a fire, his son takes the
ashes and puts it in an egg made of a special wood and flies to sacrifice
it to the Good of the Sun. It’s supposed to symbolize the regeneration
of all life. I also think it has a lot of positive energy, and as
you can see it’s big so that’s also very effective.
To have an exhibition in Sequim would be an honor without compare.
Wow! I’ll hope to hear more from Jeanne about the possibilities.
I’m also waiting for a reply from a big hotel in Stockholm due
to an order for decoration of the hotel with 14 textile
hanging tapestries with motives from the Nordic mythology since the
hotels name is Oden.
These facts and also greetings with love from me to all of the members
in the club would be nice if you could enclose the picture. Your club
and Friday Harbor are now the only clubs left that I have regular
contact with of all the clubs that I visited in the surroundings of
Seattle. I appreciate that a lot, I want you to know that.
Sincerely,
Berit Krömmelbein
