AWARD
It’s about Image... This year was the first year that SI Sequim made a submission for the Image Award. President Leah had given me a copy of the Image Award form months ago, because part of it is relative to club newsletters. She also gave a copy of the form to Anne Knight because part of it is relative to Public Relations. When I skimmed the form, I noticed the deadline for submission was sometime in April, the same date as the Northwestern Region Conference. No rush to get it together; especially with so many other things requiring more immediate attention. Suddenly
it was the middle of April and there was talk about the Northwestern
Region Conference. Yikes! That meant it was time to get the Image Award
form done. I took out the form and read through it. I had originally
thought all they wanted were copies of our club newsletters. That would
be easy. And that part of it was easy. However, as I read to the bottom of the form I saw categories that did not fall specifically under either newsletter or PR. One section is called “Club/Member Involvement,” and there’s another section of “Bonus Points.” I knew Anne would be covering the PR part, but what about the other areas? I decided to start working on those myself. Most of you will remember an email sent out asking if you are serving on any boards or hold any office. Do you realize that over a dozen of our club members are also involved with other organizations in our community? About 30% of our club members are also active in at least one, often multiple boards. Wow! We are a dynamic group! It’s just one more reason that I appreciate being part of the SI Sequim TEAM! Anne Knight and I compiled as much as we could in a very short amount of time. And I believe we provided a good representation of what our club has done over the last year. However, there were some things that could have been included if we had known sooner what was expected. I am writing this article now to make our members aware of what could be done for next year. |
WHAT
IMAGE DO YOU SEE?![]() Image
is how we see ourselves and how others see us. It carries many
labels: advertising, public relations, promotions, and advocacy. You
can present Image powerfully with action and just as powerfully
with inaction!
Image, as a reflection of how we see ourselves, I believe, is the most powerful tool we have. Do you think that a kitten believes she in invincible and can accomplish any goal? We are no different. The secret is putting the greatness we see into action. It is time to stop being timid and begin to roar. Taken from Nancy Odegard, SI Seattle North, Coordinator |

Knowing these ideas now, we may choose to do things a bit differently next year. Some of you may think that this should be the job of the Public Relations Committee. Perhaps. However, if we all keep our eyes open for the items above, we will have a very comprehensive representation of our club and our members. Getting an Award is not the main reason for doing this. The main reason is to acknowledge and honor our members that give so much, not just through Soroptimist, but also through what we give in our community. Since we do the work, why not “show our stuff” to others. Kathy
