NIGHT AT THE THEATRE (NATT)

Celebrate Memorial Day week with an evening at the theatre! Thursday (May 29, 2003) at 7:30 pm the curtain goes up on OTA’s presentation of “Run For Your Wife.” The play is written by Ray Clooney and directed by Marianne Trowbridge. This British farce is the story of a taxi driver who gets away with (or does he?) having two wives in different areas because of his irregular working schedule. Complication is piled upon complication as the cabbie tries to keep his double life from exploding.

This is our once a year Night At The Theatre (NATT) event. It is a club fundraiser for our general fund. SI Sequim has bought out the house for that night. Tickets for this performance can only be purchased through a Soroptimist member; the ticket price is $10 each. How many tickets have you sold? If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, they can be obtained from Kathy Purcell at Computer Solutions. Let’s make sure that every seat if filled when the curtain goes up. Let’s sell-out the house!

RELAY FOR LIFE

We will be in partnership with the Port Angeles Soroptimist clubs for the upcoming American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Please mark your calendars for June 6-7th ; we have registered twelve people for the event. However, we are not limited to a mere dozen. The event will take place at the Port Angeles High School track starting at 6 PM. You are encouraged to participate as a walker or even as one who cheers on our TEAM. Come for a hour or two or more if you care to stay.

The theme this year is “Carnival”. We are working with Geri Bawden who has some great ideas for our campsite. The live music will be played until about 11:00pm. There will be lots of games, contests, food and raffles going on during this 24 hour marathon. Also a Relay store will have Relay “gear” and other fun Relay For Life logo items available for purchase. Bring a few extra dollars to participate in these fundraising activities.

The goal is to have each participants raise money for cancer research. Each person who signs up will receive a Participants Packet which includes a sample letter that explains to family and friends why you are walking in the Relay For Life and asking for a donation. We can offer to walk in honor of their loved ones. We are masters of fundraisers!

You'll have the opportunity to recognize your loved ones with the evening luminaria ceremony. Lighted luminaries, available for purchase now and up to the ceremony, are decorated with the names of cancer survivors and those lost to cancer. Placed around the track they light the way for runners and walkers. The Luminaria Ceremony will be Friday at 11:00pm.

The Walk Schedule is divided into 30 minute segments. Obviously, you can come and stay as long as you like and cheer for the Soroptimist teams. If you are unable to be an active participate in the Relay, I hope you will pledge your support. The Relay is a unique, challenging and fun way to support vital cancer research.
